The intention of this piece was to paint Smaug from Hobbit in his cave in a smaller version of him.

The color choice was a very important part for the construction of the piece, since it was responsible to the "mood" of the painting. It was important to bring the idea of Smaug in his cave and the sparkling gold stand out.
