Whiskey pucks is a personal project of mine. With the growing popularity of the whiskey stones that have been coming out lately, I was forced to ask the question that I always ask when encountering a new product. How could it be better?

I went out and purchased the whiskey stones and tested them in a variety of ways. The first problem I found was that if I used more than one two oz shot, it did not stay that cold for very long. After drinking it in water I noticed that it emitted a peculiar taste.

After plenty of conceptual sketching, 3D printing, and testing, I arrived at my current model. Rather than having to deal with a clump of stones that often stuck to each other in the freezer, I came up with this clean modern design that is sure to fit in any glass. By consolidating the mass, less surface area was exposed. The puck got the water colder and kept it cold for longer than the stones.

By using the 3 material choices I will offer, I have eliminated the abnormal taste from your palate. Using the idea of altering the flavor, I have designed an insert made of American White Oak that is charred for extra character. This is what whiskey barrels are made out of so it adds a little smokiness to enhance the whiskey experience. This of course can be left out when chilling other liquors.
