The wall space is 96 x 38 inches. Since the wall was painted a charcoal gray, the design was printed on a transparent sheet of vinyl to be placed over it.
Working with the digital file, I drew the characters against a substitute charcoal gray background so I could get a better idea of how they would look against the painted wall.

Research for the design's font – Chalkboy was the final choice. For the final design, I redrew the repeating letters in "The Arts & Humanities" (e, i, s, t) so they would not be identical to one another. This helped to make the text look more natural.
Mood boards/Research – Prior to sketching the thumbnails, I gathered inspiration from chalkboard drawings and typography. From these, I decided that I needed to use a digital brush that was textured, and that I needed to use a pastel-ish color palette.
