PCA Artist Residency 2020-2021

ArtsQuest’s Arts in Education Partnership is one of 14 organizations across the state that formally partners with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to administer an Arts in Education (AIE) program. As a partner, we leverage funds provided by the Commonwealth to support in-depth arts experiences for youth and adults within four counties of eastern Pennsylvania, including: Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, and Northampton. The purpose of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts’ AIE division is to champion the arts as a tool for both personal and community development for all Pennsylvanians by supporting quality programs in schools and community settings.

The students will each create their own unique bird house for cavity nesting birds using fiber arts. Their nest design will be informed by scientific research into the ideal chamber size, entrance size, and placement of human-constructed cavity nests chambers. The students will exhibit their products for the public before getting to take them home for use outdoors or for display indoors. The students will also write reflections on the artistic process and descriptions of their work. Portions of their writing will be used to produce a brochure about the exhibit for use by the public.
Boys and Girls Club-Bethlehem

The creation of a mural brings the world of Art into the public’s plain sight. This project will give the community at the Boys and Girls Club the opportunity to express themselves in view of all the people passing by or living in the area. The mural should impact, whether consciously or subconsciously, the lives of any passers by. It should draw the attention of these people to the organization and its importance. The ultimate purpose is to send a message of togetherness to the community and display what beauty and creativity children can bring to the world when given the right opportunities.
