Hamburg container ships

This is a series about the gigantic container ships which land in Hamburg, Germany every single day and night.

I am fascinated by how the harbour is integrated into the cityscape of Hamburg. There are many easily accessible locations where you can watch the big and small ships for hours from not too far away. It is particularly exciting to watch the huge container vessels docking, loading and departing.

The sheer size of these ships, the cargo weighing tonnes, the semi-autonomous unloading process and the mere fact that such ships can float seems like a miracle.

What can be challenging when capturing night shots of ships is to choose the right shutter speed. It must be short enough to not reveal any movement of the ships and should be as long as possible in order to achieve a smooth, reflecting water surface.
Also, using built-in stabilizers can be counter-productive here.
