The Subtle Knife Description Illustration
For this project we were assigned to take a passage from a book that described either an interior or an exterior. I chose The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman and took the passage where Lyra is stepping between her world and the other world. Instead of showing this directly, I wanted to depict it abstractly since the idea of travelling between two worlds is abstract itself.

The window I illustrated as a stained glass window and this moment is the very moment Lyra is between both worlds. The outer ring shows what connects the worlds, they both have suns and moons and the daemons are their companions that can cross worlds with them. The inner ring alternates between the other world with it's mediterranean vibe and Lyra's Oxford with traffic and generic buildings. The very inside ring shows Will crouched on the other side of the window watching Lyra cross over. Lyra is the only one shown not abstractly because she is in the present.
