Three Ships Whisky recently launched a special release 12-year-old single malt whisky in limited quantities, a first for the UK and Europe. It was crafted at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, South Africa, close to Cape Town’s City Center, and is the first release in the Master Distiller’s Private Collection.

Three Ships Whisky recently launched a special release 12-year-old single malt whisky in limited quantities, a first for the UK and Europe. It was crafted at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, South Africa, close to Cape Town’s City Center, and is the first release in the Master Distiller’s Private Collection.
Just Design was tasked to create a label and giftbox to compliment the sentiment of this very special whisky, aimed at attracting international whisky lovers and connoisseurs.
Design solution
The label and packaging needed to be special and capture the provenance of the unique place it is from, South Africa, while at the same time acknowledging
that it is a worthy global contributor to the world’s best whiskies.
The Result
For this limited edition whisky, we created an understated black label that follows traditional whisky cues while staying true to the brand. The label celebrates the beauty and mastery that goes into producing a world renowned whisky and combines a copper foil with embossings, highbuilds and varnishes.
For the giftbox we pulled inspiration from the matt black label and used the large canvas of the box to produce a visual story that heroes the elements within the surroundings of the James Sedgwick Distillery. Copper foil was used to highlight elements like the protea, table mountain and the African sun, creating layers of discovery on pack.
