A Perfect Window – Installation

A man wearing white, eating comfortably, stands in the middle of a room. However, the action he’s involved with is hidden behind a projection of a man wearing a suit, sitting in an uptight manner in front of an empty dish, using utensils to pretend that he’s eating. This projection is shot with a camera connected to a TV screen that shows the recorded action. A woman wearing white feeds her baby from an empty bottle of milk, imitating the action on TV. This installation tackles David Graeber’s joking in relation to avoidance in the post-modern capitalist society and to the concept of deification. It engages with eating, which has taken many forms throughout history, and shows modes of perfection that are sought by people who use technology to climb the social-class ladder and approach the divine, dominating, controlling, and exploiting others as a result.
