Typography Animation Design
I worked as freelance motion designer since 2014 and mainly focusing on motion graphic design field. Worked for a mobile app group called Type Art as a typography motion designer, here are some design processes:
Get the Typeface and Analyze
Agent will pass me a typeface they want to make animation on and I will analyze some characteristics for the typeface ( for example serif vs sans serif, loops on some letters, swash or not etc. ) because some of them will impact if it's easy to do certain types of animations. Then I'll come up with some demos for suitable animations on letter A to let them pick which one they want to go forward with
Create animation for each of letters
Once everyone's agreed on a specific animation I will apply the same method to all the uppercase characters, lowercase characters and some special characters based on the requirement. Most of the animations are done within Adobe After Effects, and I will create some variables to control the colours, stroke width and animation speed etc. so they will be easy to config globally
Export a demo or promotion video
For customer easily check how the set of animation goes, a demo gif is always needed to showcase each of the characters. Sometimes a promotion video can help them easier to make decision even.
