Design Thinking Workshops

Design Thinking Workshops
Teaching & applying the methodology.
ABOUT
Over the course of 7 months, I designed and co-facilitated 6 Design Thinking workshops for a group of students as part of The Intel Experience Week. The purpose of this programme for Transition Year students, is to give them the opportunity to experience a number of different workshops to provide them with an insight into the broader opportunities of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM).
The purpose of the Design Thinking workshop was to teach the students about the importance of incorporating real human needs at the beginning of tech-driven projects to ensure full value is delivered to the end user.
AIM
- To ensure all students are in a creative mindset before beginning the workshop by carrying out quick and simple drawing exercises
- To provide kids in their teens with an understanding of the design thinking process with human-centred design being the main theme
- To teach the kids through a practical interactive workshop environment to enhance their learning and understanding of the design process, as well as increasing their productivity
- To ensure they can easily relate to the concept of human-centred design by providing them with some real-world examples of where it's applied

FEEDBACK
"I really enjoyed the structure of the workshop. I learned a lot about the Design Thinking process and how it can be used. I had never heard of it before."

"I can see how understanding the needs of the person you are designing for is very important. It's something I never really thought about before."

"I really enjoyed learning in a fun and interactive way. I wish we had the chance to do more of that in school in certain subjects."

"I think the prototyping was really beneficial. It was a cool way to see our ideas come to life. Who knew you could learn so much building something from drinking straws and paper?!"
