Classism Under Construction is a campaign that aims to bring awareness about social housing and class, the target audience being the general population and those who are in positions of power who are able to initiate or oversee change/reform. Issues with social housing have been ongoing in England and people do not usually take notice of this. Not until the Grenfell fire which caused outrage among the residents as well as other people of lower classes. I aim to address the link between social housing and class since it is always the lower class who are victims and targets of social housing disasters, their voices rarely heard by society.

The title for the campaign is a play on words and states that the problem with class and social housing estates needs to be addressed and needs ‘constructing’ or ‘re-constructing’ – in other words action must be taken to improve residents lives and the stigma placed upon them due to the kind of housing the live in.
Based on research, my personal views and the views of some of the 9 million residents of social housing in England, change needs to occur in within this area. The residents face hardships relating to their housing situations. The lower class who occupy these estates live in high rises which are poorly build compared to the luxury high rises that those with more wealth and a higher societal status reside in. An example of this is this can be seen when it was discovered that the poor and highly flammable cladding that was used to construct Grenfell tower was the reason for the fire spreading which destroyed the whole building and led to 72 deaths. In a response to this, I hope my campaign will help bring awareness and shed some light on those who do not recognise the severity of the issue.
