Image-Making (Compound Word)

Compound Word: Doghouse
Approach: This project involved illustrating a compound word in a fun and creative way. My goal was to create an image that not only creatively illustrated my word, but mader the viewer think. I chose the doghouse and thought of a clever way to a house without using an image of a house. I found that a full house poker hand was a clever and interesting way to approach this project. In the end I came up with three unique suits of playing cards, and the image of the dog as the king of bones.

Iterations
Sketches
The sketch phase was pretty rough. I started off with a few only a few images, and ended feeling like all of my sketches barely scratched the surface of my creative thinking. I believe choosing the full house of cards was the best option. Choosing the full house of cards meant learning a bit about poker, and looking at the intricate details of a playing card. I replaced the small details on the cards with dog related images of a bone, stick, a and a paw print to embody the dog house meaning. To finish it off of course I made one of the kings into a dog.
