The Elements: Fire and Ice

 The Elements: Fire and Ice
Being in Iceland, it is difficult not to photograph things, such is the natural beauty of the place and density of natural wonders packed within the small area of land. But as they call it the land of fire and ice, I want to dedicate this project only to those two wonderful opposites at play and get close and personal with them.
Jokulsarlon or Glacier lagoon, as it is commonly known.
In 2021 nature was mightily generous to present us with not-so-dangerous volcano eruption (Fagradalsfjall, Reykjanes peninsula) and glaciers and ice lagoons are one of the Iceland's wonders on the regular basis. (on this photo Fjallsarlon, glacier lake)
Eruption at Fagradalsfjall, Reykjanes peninsula has gone through many different stages of eruption. At the time of the visit it was a pulsating eruption bursting into life every 10 -15 minutes with magnificent display. Here: a moment, seconds before new burst would begin.
Take a walk at Fjallsarlon glacier lagoon and be embraced by the ice element.
Being so close to erupting volcano is difficult to describe indeed.

With the eruption of the volcano a new part of the earth is being born, some parts are transformed and while ice and glaciers seems to be steady, walking at the edge of the glacier will provide a different story altogether. The rumbling and cracking sounds, sometimes loud enough to give one goosebumps, are quite regular happening.
New day begins at Diamond Beach, South Iceland.
Chunks of ice float out into the ocean from glacier lagoons and thrown out onto the black sand beaches along the coast.
Let the fire rivers flow...
One things about Iceland is that, you can never predict the weather changes...Perfectly still and quiet waters of glacier lake contrasted with the dark stormy skies in the background is quite a suitable example....of not knowing what could happen in the next moment.
Four months later and the landscape in the area of eruption has completely changed. Some weeks before, lava has broken through the barriers....and it was not possible to get close to the crater on this day...And as I do not use drone in my photography this view of the eruption was the last one I have witnessed in Iceland.

Thank you for watching...:)
Hopefully this one is an ongoing project and some of the material will be added later on...
