“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” This is a quote from Marie Curie. She was the first woman to win a Noble Prize, in Physics, and with her later win, in Chemistry, she became the first person to claim Nobel honors twice. Her words inspired me.

This work represented in a sequence is Chi Hyun In’s breakdancing at Joshua Tree. The performance began with the artist breakdancing in nature surrounded by organic materials and being himself. When he dances, he feels alive, happy and free. He likes to use the form of breakdancing to express himself. He prefers to perform in front of people because it empowers him in a way that he can overcome his fear. Being ourselves and how we are reflected to others is something that we are cautious about living in this day and age. Somehow, we have to escape from our own fears and barriers for ourselves and dream to express who we are. We all do it in different ways and times: finding your own way of being truly who you are. At the end of the journey, he goes out into the world and becomes one with it. The more we become ourselves, the less fear you have when expressing one’s self. He will never stop experimenting until his fears disappear.
Thank you!
