Publication Design: Moshi Moshi

Moshi Moshi is a magazine I created for Typography class as well as a student contest for the Society of Publication Designers. The prompt was to create a magazine in one of four categories: Fashion, Travel, News and Sports. I chose the category of Travel and chose to focus on the city of Tokyo, having studied abroad there in the spring semester of 2021. In choosing something I personally related to, I was able to use a lot of my own photography from my time there and also a lot of the knowledge that I had gathered just from living in a different country. For instance, "moshi moshi" is a phrase the Japanese commonly use as a greeting when they answer the phone. I thought it would be fitting for the name of the magazine as it felt like someone telling people back home who hadn't visited yet about what Japan has to offer. I decided to use a gradient for the general colors of the magazine to make it pop and target a younger audience. For the feature article, I opted for.a red that emulated the common imagery of the red sun in Japan.
