My idea was to illustrate burnout by turning a person's head into the end of a match.  I wanted the head to be blackened from the end of the burn.  It's that time when the fire has run out, the end is nothing but a black charcoal with smoke blowing off.  I wanted to represent some glowing embers that still have the last bit of juice left with a little bit of red in the eyes and edges of the head.  The faded red background is to offset the match from the white of the page, add a little bit of texture and represent the fire that used to be there.
