"Death, Grief, and Faery: Final Shore"

""Death, Grief, and Faery: Final Shore" 30"x22" ink on paper

Part of a series surrounding my grief over my mother's death in 2020 (of cancer.)  In it, I address my processing of this loss by drawing her spirit, Fae creatures, and myself interacting in various ways.

The woman in green is a Sidhe (shee) woman, a faerie, come to take my mother to Tir Na Nog, the faerie realm over the western ocean, which is also associated with the land of the dead. Some imagery regarding her (physical) cremation, and her (emotional/spiritual) will to clutch at life even as it slipped through her fingers. Here, she does not want to leave her urn, her physical body, her presence on this plane, even though her presence here is pain to her. The Sidhe woman kneels beside her- she will wait patiently.
