GRAPHIC DESIGN PORTFOLIO 2013

SELF-PORTRAIT

Janis Joplin. That's all I can say about this vector self-portrait.
ACCESS RECREATION BOSTON

I worked as a freelance graphic designer for Hotchkiss Consulting Group on a logo for one of their clients. Access Recreation Boston is a non-profit organization that brings outdoor events and activities to physically and handicapped youth through an accessible online calendar. Having a physically handicapped relative in my own family, my experience with this design process was both enlightening and rewarding.

Salty Waters Rawbar & Grill is an existing restaurant on James Island, SC. I have visited this particular restaurant, and I must say, the current logo (what a morose fish...) does not do the dynamic, unpretentious, neighborly atmosphere any favors (and don't get me started on the font choice...).

Needless to say, I decided to give the logo a solid facelift. The salmon and teal colors work well with the hand-rendered type. The wavy tagline is set in Avenir Bold. The fish-shaped menu has a quirky charm that complements the logo and contributes to the down-home, gregarious nature of the restaurant. I presented my logo to the owner of Salty Waters who deemed it "bad ass", though he said he isn't quite ready for a rebranding. I'll wait.
THE WILLOW SCHOOL

I went to a preparatory day school in New Jersey before attending a small, private college in New England. Both experiences overwhelmed me in that I encountered so many individuals with incredible senses of self-entitlement. I vowed that if I ever had the opportunity to found a school, it would have the same, strong, academic standards that I was fortunate enough to receive but it would be devoid of gratuitous privIlege.

Enter the Willow School. The Willow School is a small, preparatory boarding school in western Massachusetts. The school stresses academic excellence and environmental stewardship, and it boasts a fully sustainable campus that is nestled in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains. I had a fabulous time laying out the spreads and developing the body copy for the academic guide, which includes a brief history of the school and accompanying stock photos of students in outdoor academic environments.

***CENTAUR: A TYPE SPECIMEN BOOK
Typography: Spring Quarter 2013

What appealed to me about Centaur, with its peculiar imperfections, was its roots in Renaissance handwriting and cut letters. Small biographies about five important leaders of the Renaissance, along with accompanying quotes by each artist to showcase the typeface's weights and sizes, supplement this elegant book. Illuminated drop caps and original forms bolster the typeface's roots in the Humanist aesthetic.
