THE NINITH WAVE- EN
The ninth wave is a theatrical album by singer-songwriter Kate Bush, released in 1985, being the B-side of the Hounds of Love album, was a comeback after a long hiatus, and featured hits like Running Up That Hill and Cloudbusting.
By itself called a side of the album that is more conceptual, it tells a story about a character who is in a great river, freezing and awaiting rescue, as she glimpses her past, present and future, until she is saved at the end (as I said the singer herself)
I wanted to encapsulate the main elements that are repeated in the story, thus creating images that would accompany the album, a small collection of visuals that would go along with the songs to set the plot.
As I preferred to leave it in shades of gray in addition to black and white, to avoid excessive stimuli (we already have music, design and typography all together), typography was a great ally in expressing and embedding emotions, like the songs themselves they are emotional and ambient, I wanted the lyrics there to bring the same load of emotion, without saturating or standing out.
For this I created deformations that resemble water and movement, sometimes more violent, sometimes more restrained, also accompanying the intonation of the singing, vocals and melodies of the album.

“A nona onda” título traduzido de “The ninth wave”, é um álbum teatral da cantora e compositora Kate Bush, lançado em 1985, sendo o lado B do álbum Hounds of Love, foi um comeback pós um longo hiatus, e trouxe hits como Running Up That Hill e Cloudbusting.
Sendo pela própria denominado um lado do álbum que é mais conceitual, conta uma história sobre uma personagem que está em um grande rio, congelando e aguardando o resgate, enquanto vislumbra seu passado, presente e futuro, até ser salva no final (como disse a própria cantora).
Quis encapsular os elementos principais que se repetem na história, assim criando imagens que acompanhariam o álbum, uma pequena coleção de visuais que iriam junto com as músicas ambientar a trama.
Como eu preferi deixar em tons de cinza além do preto e branco, para evitar o excesso de estímulos (já temos música, desenho e tipografia tudo junto), a tipografia foi uma grande aliada ao expressar e encaixar emoções, como as músicas por si já são emocionantes e ambientadas, queria que a letra ali trouxesse a mesma carga de emoção, sem saturar ou se sobressair.
Para isso criei deformações que lembrassem água e movimento, ás vezes mais violento, ás vezes mais comedido, também acompanhando a entonação do canto, vocais e melodias do álbum.
