Vermeer used the light from a window to illuminate his scenes and give them realism.
It is also said that he forbade cleaning them because the dirt on the glass blurred the light and made the shadows more diffuse. In my case, the day I took this picture it was cloudy, something that helped me to make the most of the natural light.
The photograph was taken in the ancient kitchens of the Castle of Monesiglio, Italy.
