Bedroom transformation

This advisory project was developed for Catalina's bedroom, creating a style guide of color, materials, organization and decoration. The objective was to transform the room in simple way, shopping just a couple items and re-purposing others that were already in the house. This, in order to achieve a stylish look that make the room look bigger, more enlightened, cozy and, very important, easy to keep clean and organized.

Process
The first step was to check which useful elements and furniture were already at the house, to avoid shopping new ones as much as possible. A bunk bed's ladder, a wood stool, a horizontal piece of wood shelf and an eraseable board were found unused at the basement and were cleaned to repurpose them in the room. Also, a mirror at the hall, a storage bench at the studying room, and some pillow cases on the closet were found as useful. Once this objects were collected, a shopping list was made, were a "floating" bedside table was bought in order to keep most of the floor empty so the space looks bigger and is easy to clean. Also, a paper bin and a laundry basket were bought to keep the space clean, with everything in its place. Furthermore, two types of plants were chosen to make the bedroom more comfortable: the Snake Plant, which is well-known for producing oxygen at night and improving the indoor environment, and a Kokedama small fern in order to highlight the fact of bringing nature inside. Finally, a mustard-colored blanket with lines texture, and a beige cushion chair pad were bought in order to make the space feel more cozy and to create a color contrast with the living coral varnish bought for the walls.

In this way, after taking almost everything out of the room and putting newspaper to cover the floor. the baseboards were painted with the white varnish. Then, some tape was pasted on the walls in order to emphasize straight lines and make the room look bigger by leaving the upper part painted white. Under the line, the living coral varnish was applied, painting the side walls with a unique triangle shape that seem to "hug" the room with the warm color. After this, the plant pot was painted with white aerosol to match the room and the Snake Plant was plant in it. Also, the horizontal wood shelf was converted into a vertical one with a carpenter's help, who pasted a similar piece of wood on the base to keep it standing up.

Results
All the objects were strategically placed in the room based on four specific decisions:

1. The bed was moved from the window wall to the door wall, in order to make the room look with more available space as soon as someone enters to it

2. The few objects were located at the window's wall and most of them have just a small surface that touches the floor or doesn't touch it at all. This, in order to make the room look bigger and with more available space. Their function is very specific: The bedside table has a small surface just for glasses, iPad and phone; the shelf with her favorite books, an eraseable board for her planning skills, and a paper bin for garbage; the snake plant for bedroom's oxygen; the laundry basket for dirty clothes, and a ladder to hang some clean clothes or towels.

3. The mirror was placed in the opposite wall of this objects, over the bed's side, to reflect them, the rest of the space and the light that enters through the window, in order to make the room look bigger and more enlightened.

4. The reading spot for Catalina's hobby was placed at the corner close to the window and under the light bulb, were she can sit down and receive natural or artifical light. This area has a more neutral palette and has the Kokedama on it, making it look more relaxed. This bench's inside still works as a small storage, but its hided against the wall, in order to keep the room simple, clean and organized.
