I was at the top of 'the Dish' - running on Stanford campus- when beneath the grass . . . something rusted !
One of the two dewy pieces I dragged off the hill that morning became the accidental rustic top of a design challenge I hadn't yet contemplated . . .
. . . there'd been mention made of wanting a 'nightstand'.
I chose & worked the FSC Brazilian Mahogany, but my father's eyes found the grain and his love came through my hands to reveal the life of the tree that was. The drawer-pull: a stone stolen from weeks in the Denali wilderness. On the top shelf, a slot makes way for clock radio cords to be contained. On the bottom shelf, a sliding door lets them disappear under the piece.
Not quite a dresser, more than a bookshelf - one night stand holds secrets & treasures,
and wakes you up in the morning
