“Alright, I want a nice clean dispersal this time!”
- Gunnery Sergeant Apone

‘Hadley's Hope’ - this is my piece for the new Aliens Artbook from Printed in Blood published by Titan Books.
One of the elements of 1986´s Aliens which sets it apart from its predecessor and that I wanted to explore in the art is the strong militaristic tone of the film. I decided to draw on the old maxim of what remains hidden from the viewer being the most terrifying to create a scene that focused on the team’s arrival on the inhospitable planet LV-426. Ron Cobb’s epic design and concept art inspired me to try to create an image that would capture the tension and drama of the expedition’s entrance to the forlorn colony of Hadley’s Hope. The enemy remains unseen at this point but the atmosphere processing plant looming ominously on the horizon hints at what lies in store for the marines.

I researched plans and blueprints of the colony and APC to attempt to draw to scale what I had in mind with as much authenticity and accuracy as possible and I was truly blown away by the wealth of technical material built up by fans over the years. Here are a few links to some of the resources that proved useful in discovering reference material for the project:
