For making my first intaglio print, I had to look for an image with a broad range of value, interesting texture or shapes and directional movement within the composition. I chose tomatoes. The overall project goal was a final piece that captured an illusion of space and depth or a sense of volume and form.

I chose the tomatoes because of the overlapping and shape within the composition. I thought it would be an interesting image to try to capture with a medium and skill I had never used before.
My approach to capturing the shape of each vegetable (fruit?) was to etch the lines with the shape, resulting in a lot of round crosshatching. Though I left out elements that were further receding back, I think I did a decent job capturing an illusion of space, to a certain degree. This project was a great introduction to the world of intaglio printing and I really enjoyed it.
