Second time making an intaglio print, and I had to create a series of prints using the hard ground etching method. The final project had to "consider the expressive and descriptive uses of line and how the type of line(s) you use help to define form, or spatial characteristics, or express a mood."

I chose a photo of a sculpture figure, possibly greek, as reference. I thought an intaglio print of this would be interesting with what the expression of the sculpture is and how the overall photo was cropped.
For the hard ground method, the image gets etched into a zinc plate. The process starts by tracing your picture onto the ground on the plate and then scratching it into it. I only traced the major defining lines so I would know where everything was and because I didn't want the image to feel too flatly drawn out.

I really enjoyed this intaglio project; I enjoyed the process quite a bit and was happy with how my prints came out.
