INK BLOT PROJECT
ART Image 252
Semester Two of Year One
OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
Have you ever looked at the sky and saw shapes in the clouds? It takes a certain amount of creativity to pinpoint images in objects. With doing so, creativity, imagination, and a sense of relation is needed. Throughout this project, I was tested to show these attributes.
The project was to make words out of ink blots.

PROCESS
Firstly, I gathered black ink, newspaper, various sided dice, coffee filters, and a spoon. I strategically dipped the objects in the ink. Using the objects, I dropped, hit, pressed, dragged, drew with, rolled, and threw the objects at the paper to make a variety of blots. After, I scanned the paper and started to find objects in the blots. I choose ten of my favourite blots made a list of words for each one. After I started to sketch the blots into words using Adobe Photoshop.

I began to manipulate the ink blot into the chosen words. I created fonts and used the blot to create the feeling for the words. Had a critique and began to re-manipulate the blots.
Lastly, I added details to make the text more abstract and chose my preferred image for my final project. I printed it at 10 inches by 10 inches and I mounted it on a 12 inch by 12 inch black chip board mat and turned it in.

FINISHED PROJECT
PERSONAL IMPUT
Being able to create words from completely random blots forced me to look at new perspectives and see objects that I would not initially see. It allowed me to expand my awareness, creativity, and creation, and gave me an opportunity to share feeling in fonts. Before this project I had not realised that there is a theme and mood in text and the specific font chosen. Now, I understand the impact and can use this new skill in future projects.
