This is a static image of a data viz originally published on Tableau Public. Each block is one of the 150 psalms from the Book of Psalms in the modern English bible. The idea was to replicate the effect of Experimental Jetset's work for Artimo in 2003: <http://www.jetset.nl/archive/artimo-a-z>. Because variation can be beautiful...
... but not too much variation, which can be isolating, impair comparison, and destroy detail. So while each block is reminiscent of a psalm's length (height) and mean words per verse (width), these values are severely winsorized from their maximums. Colors are by book, of which there are five in the compiled Book of Psalms.
The intention was to create not so much a quantitative representation of psalm size (which has no value), but rather an aesthetically pleasing mnemonic.
