POV Statement: First year design students need a way to connect with people in a creative manner because it can be difficult and to meet and bond with new people with such a heavy workload and limited time.

User Profile: Our project allows design students of all years to design their own puzzle piece showcasing their interests, names or maybe just their art skills. The time spent decorating this piece is also a time to socialize and bond over shared interests shown through their designs or maybe the act of waiting for a decorating utensil. The puzzle pieces will connect on four different triangles strategically placed in our space to direct the flow and movement in a new and interesting way. At the end of the night, the pieces can be taken off the puzzle boards and connected into one three-dimensional pyramid showing that, really, we do all connect in some way.
We started brainstorming different ideas of what we could do for this project. There were many different ideas including a make your'e own waffle house, life size checkers, a thumb-wrestling arena, etc.
We decided on a make you're own puzzle piece. This consisted of having a pyramid made out of wood or chipboard and then making smaller triangles out of foamboard for people to decorate. This picture is of a diagram of the movement on the second floor of the link.
We modified our idea to hanging triangles in the link instead but people would still make their own puzzle piece. This is a few of us cutting the triangles out of the foamboard.
~~Here we tried different ways to connect the pieces together. We tried paper clips.
~~We also tred staples and washers. In the end, we bent the paperclips as well as we were able into a straight piece and cut it a few times and used those to attach them together.
~~In the shop, we cut four equal lateral triangles out of a hardwood and smoothed out the edges.
Here's one of our joiners.
Another joiner.
To hang the triangles we used fishing line. We positioned the line so it would look like the triangles were floating.
Our professor Chris made his own piece and contributed to a few others.
These are the finished collages our entire project.
