Books are now the safest doors. The barrage of bad news from the outside gives me more incentive than ever to step into a more colour-filled world.
We’re realising now, in the midst of a pandemic, that we blindly value the health of our lungs over the integrity of our hearts. The true fear in the belly of the beast is not the disease, but the inhuman sparring amongst ourselves. The caws of the witch-hunt grow more deafening by the day, so take a step back from the toxicity of social media; we’re all in this together.
In these times, we have an opportunity we don't usually get. Spending your alone time looking inward is a chance to know yourself better, and will lead to a chance to broaden your view.
"Identity is defined by conflicts and dilemmas more than by agreements." The effort you put into defending an idea can establish who you are, for others, yes, but predominantly for yourself. Control aggression, control emotion, because the fight that temporarily engulfed you can permanently define you.
Some people are virtuosos in playing other people's feelings. They pluck despairing strings and draw from hollow bodies our miserable reverberations. They seek gratification from our anguished longing to feel the music within us, and play it all, note by note, for their own sadistic audience.
You're not alone. Even the best see themselves as shit sometimes. Self-doubt is a stepping stone on the path towards self-improvement; just don't be too harsh on yourself, because the feeling will pass.
You are the tank to my fish; being with you helps me to breathe in times of toxic air.
