Design 016-001: Illustrations and Color Variation
By Alex Arellano
The purpose of this project is to learn basic Adobe Illustrator tools and techniques in order to create a dynamic figure within a created space. We traversed the drafting process through the use of the Adobe suite, mostly Adobe Illustrator. Through this project I learned how to utilize the pen and "live paint" tools. Doing this we created four unique color pallets with the intent of learning how to utilize recolor tools.
I chose to create a figure wearing a heavy puffer jacket with baggy jeans, along with a scarf to adorn the head. I went in to the design process focusing more on the articles of clothing I wished to include rather than the pose of the figure. My reasoning being that I wished to utilize the wide range of shades and tints we created through the color guide feature. These would then be used to create the many folds and wrinkles on the puffer jacket.
Though the background was somewhat of an afterthought meant to fill up the negative space, I used it as an opportunity as a means to gain experience creating spaces with a two point perspective. Though there are areas that could use improvement such as adjustment of shadows and within saturations. Despite this , overall I am very happy with the outcome of the product.
