Steward Smart Space Series
The inevitable reality of urban living is the constraint of space.
From the expert interviews that were conducted with various Food and Beverage (F&B) industry stakeholders, we have discovered that there is limited space for restaurants to accommodate service utilities such as drinks, cutleries, vases, and serviettes, and for the diners to accommodate their personal belongings and paraphernalia. Diners do not enjoy meals on cluttered tables and accommodating new dishes is difficult. In worse cases, tableware gets knocked over, thus increasing requests for waiter services.
Steward Smart Space Series is a range of smart furniture add-on systems that aims to serve diners better. They help relieve stress on waiters by reducing service requests and boosting efficiency. Through leveraging normally unused space around the dining context, the series pushes the notion of Spacing Saving, unlocking the Power of Space.

Phase 01: Expert Interviews & Workshop
From expert interviews and observations, we have identified several pain points and insights. We started to ask "how might we" questions to inspire possibilities and brainstorm innovative ideas during a design workshop.
Phase 02: Design Exploration & Prototypes
We went through multiple rounds of iterations from CAD exploration to quick-and-dirty prototypes, functional testing to validate the scale and experience with each product. As users’ voices are important, we took the prototypes to restaurants to gather insightful feedback to further refine the series.
