Non-Objective Paper Sculpture

Non-Objective Paper Art Sculptures
Using various papers, such as doubled-up printer paper and Canson's XL Oil & Acrylic paper, I created three types of non-objective paper art sculptures. For the first image, I used scissors, paper, and a knife, and a cutting board to develop a shape that when folded in various directions created a unique sculpture that had interesting interactions with light and shadows.
For the second image, I created a unique sculpture by drawing continuous lines on a thick paper and then cutting the negative space between lines using a knife and scissors on a cutting board. This piece was developed with reference and inspiration to Andy Singleton and the video "PAPER ART Workshop Andy Singleton, ENGLAND".
As for the third image, I created several hyperbolic parabolas with reference to Eric Gjerde's video "Origami Hyperbolic Parabola Instructions".
In the creation of these three forms of non-objective paper art sculptures, I found how fun and exciting it can be to take everyday items, such as paper, and create unique pieces of art from them. I found that the time put in to creating these sculptures took much longer than anticipated, but felt as though the time invested was well worth having beautiful pieces of art. I found that each piece had its own challenges. For instance, in the first image, I had to limit myself as to how many lines to create and how to place the lines so that when it came time to fold, the parts all went together nicely. The third image was tricky to develop for me because it was difficult to get sharp and clean lines.
