Come Out Of Your Shell

My Major Project explores the subject of Shyness through design. This project consists of a three glass domes and two paper nests which examine the phrase commonly connected to shy people - you need to come out of your shell. Research was gathered from shy participants and their stories were used in these graphic egg sculptures. Eggshells were the most appropriate media to use to show a shy person's fragility and the need to break out.

The first dome depicts the theory that being over protected as a child can cause a person to be shy. I drew an illustration of a girl curled up in the fetal position inside the egg and placed it on a nest of type.

The second dome explains the feeling of being trapped inside of yourself and desperate to get out.

The third dome shows how shy people constantly feel exposed and on display to the world.

The first nest reflects the common misconceptions of shy people.

The second nest explains the reasons why shy people struggle to come out of their "shell" with phrases set in resin within the egg.
