We recently went to Budapest for an early summer break and to look at the property market there. I have never been to Hungary before and was not sure what to expect.
In short we were blown away by the place, both the architecture and the people. The architecture speaks for itself which is unsurprising given its importance as part of the Austo-Hungarian empire. I also loved the soviet counterpart to this which brought a utilitarian edge to the landscape with modernist geometry typical of the era and ideology.

I was most surprised by the people. I could best sum up Budapest by its people's sense of confidence and optimism. Whilst Hungary has its fair share of political and financial troubles it is not evident on the streets of Buda or Pest. The people are out having fun, being alive, being funky and cool. They were friendly, sociable and cultured. We frequented many very cool bars from the retro-stylish to the Szimpla's  (derelict buildings that are turned into the most funky, junky hangouts) that are popping up.

The city was safe, clean and spacious. Can't wait to go back!
