Story Synopsis
Alden Derecho wants to feel understood. Stuck in a home with an icily distant father and haunted by a village full of hushed voices, she is left longing for a different life. The fairy blood running through Alden’s veins marks her as unique. It’s a reminder of her late mother; a cruel gift in a world that fears magic. Fayekind exists only in dark legends and far away memories. Alden must keep her head down.
There is only one place Alden knows she can escape to: the Malwood Forest. There, her fairy powers have forged a mystical bond to the heart of the woodlands. The Forest listens to Alden. Her deepest emotions speak life into multitudes of wild creatures. She is greeted by the comforting reflections of her own heart and mind.
This is her sanctuary. Safe. Secure. Until the day a shadowy visitor crosses Alden’s path; an unwelcome presence that unravels a feeling of heavy dread. Her once familiar forest begins to darken, and her powers begin to waver. Alden Derecho either must face the emotion that haunts her or surrender to the pressure of her mind’s dark Omen.
