Recently I spent some time with Joe and John of Red Shed Malting and Hamill Farms. As a personal project for 2022 I wanted to take on something a little bigger. When I stumbled upon Red Shed Maltings instagram page one evening I realized that not only were they one of the only Malting operations in Canada but they were also growing the barley that they were malting. From that the idea grew that I could start a project and follow the seed from filed to glass. So I reached out and got chatting with Daelyn and ran my idea past her. Daelyn had a chat with the rest of the family and the project got the green light. So here we are with instalment one of the series. I'm hoping to shoot every step of the process from seeding to crop spraying to harvest to malting to brewing to pint glass so if you're interested in the process I would love to have you follow along for the journey.
