Editorial Design: Narrative and Curatorial Photography.
Brief Summary
This project consists of a horizontal layout that illustrates a narrative focusing on one or more of the following qualities: shape, texture, pattern, colour and tonal values. A narrative as a ‘concept’ is curated through the use of photography.
The layouts consist of both documentary photography and fashion photography. The aim of this project is to capture scenes that are visually striking and to use these photographs to convey a narrative.
Project Deliverables
A series of 5 photographs, presented as a horizontal narrative including.
1. Three black and white documentary photographs.
2. Two black and white/ colour fashion photographs.
3. A print of the final curated narrative.
Design Strategy
I set out to create a panoramic layout that illustrates a photographically narrative that focuses or highlights one or more of these visual qualities (shape, texture, pattern, colour and tonal values). The sequence need not have a literal or ‘obvious’ story, in fact, it should remain an abstract piece. Approaching my documentary photographs with a calm yet engaging scene, I approached the fashion photography with a chaotic feel, I managed to captive a subtly chaotic photographic series that catches the eye for more than a fleeting moment.
