Typographic Business Card

Mockup of Final Business Card Design

For this school project we were required to create a business card with a typographic focus. We were only allowed to use a handful of typefaces and were required to keep the graphics to a minimum. I chose to use the typeface Bodoni.

We also needed to have our names, positions, an email address, website, two social media handles, a physical address and two phone numbers on the front of the card. I kept the design simple to let the typography stand out.
We had more creative freedom with the back side. After experimenting with a rose graphic and getting some tips from my instructor, I finally went with something simpler and typographic. This side is great for a logo!

Below is a page of sketches that we did before getting into the digital design process:
Then we did some digital sketches in just black and white. Some of them turned out pretty good, and others....not so much. Although I had more favorites, I pared it down to three. I was partial to the serif fonts, especially Bodoni and Bembo. They both had a more sophisticated feel.
After I chose one to work with, we experimented with 4 different color schemes. The blue and purple made me think of winter after a night of softly falling snow. It was the runner up in color choices. The brighter pink and green colors were fun, but didn't seem to fit with the font and arrangement. I thought the last one was pretty nice as well but I went with the final colors because...
...they were playful but also reserved. They didn't overpower the typeface, but were able to send a message on their own.
