NRG Esports is an American esports organization based in Los Angeles, California. It has rosters in Apex Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch, Rocket League, Valorant, speedrunning and a number of streamers on the internet platform Twitch.
The goal of the new NRG branding was to bring a more unified look, creating a link
between different games - Valorant, Apex Legends and Rocket League, while still having
elements that set them apart to be easily recognizable as each game.
I focused on a doodle style, using a dominant bold font for the main text,
adding smaller, custom drawn elements such as singular letters, items from the game,
or stars to bring more attention to the text.
For Rocket League - I wanted to focus on the pinks from our decals,
as it is unique to Rocket League and brings an exciting
addition to our graphics, while using the cars themselves as the elements to draw upon.
Since VALORANT has a lot of Agents with varying abilities, guns and more,
I focused on doodles from the game itself - recreating abilities,
items and more to add to the graphic. I wanted to keep the colors
strict to black and white, unless it was the announcement of a creator,
bringing in the VALORANT red to draw attention to the signing.
With the design for Apex Legends, I added a third color - yellow,
and a more grunge style using slight halftones and thicker background
elements such as fire and lightning to differentiate it from the rest.
I also decided to use silhouettes, that way the focus can be on the players
themselves, while adding color that wasn’t too obnoxious to the design.
