Specialist Workflows.
For this mini-brief we had to take an environmental portrait of someone in their work or hobby environment.
An environmental portrait is a portrait executed in the subject's usual environment, such as in their home or workplace, and typically illuminates the subject's life and surroundings.
Research.
Annie Leibovitz is an American photographer, most well known for her portraits of celebrities and well known faces. Leibovitz has the ability to capture her subjects at intimate moments, sometimes staged, that reveal playful and expressive aspects of their lives.
I like Leibovitz's work because of the high contrast that she uses when editing, which adds depth to her images and makes them feel moody.
Final Outcomes.
I was fortunate enough to be told yes when I went into costa coffee and asked if I was able to take photos of one of the barista’s. It was her last day, so she was overjoyed that I was able to make it special for her by documenting her final day with costa.
Self Reflection.
I felt that although I rushed this brief, I was still quite satisfied with my final outcomes, as I believe I had achieved what the brief was asking for. If I could redo this shoot, I would’ve maybe incorporated a portable lighting set up, as the lighting in the costa wasn’t the best, and so it took some heavy editing to bring my images to how they look now.
Assessing Risks.
When shooting for this brief, I only had a few risks to consider. I had to make sure that I was only shooting the barista, and that if I did get anyone else in shot, that they were not at all in focus. I also had to make sure that the space around me was clear so that I didn’t slip and drop my camera.
