through fashion: see. smell. touch. | fashion film

This fashion film was inspired by an assignment I did for school in 2020. The theme of the semester was "me with all the senses" and I had to make a work in any form of media from an individual interpretation of the theme. In most of our actions the 5 senses are present, so I started to think about how they apply to fashion. For my school assignment I made a photo editorial, but afterwards, as I was looking at it I felt something was missing, so for my portfolio I decided to apply the same concept to a fashion film. I thought that the sensations would be better transmitted through a video, because they are not static, and video allows the idea of movement to be transmitted.
For sight, I focused on color perception, which is why while I am wearing sunglasses in the introduction of the video the scenes are in black and white. Sight is also the first sense to appear in the video because it allows the rest of the video to be in color. I did the styling thinking in complementary (green and red), monochromatic and analogous (lilac, green and blue) combinations to use as many colors as possible.
For smell, I thought about how when we wear someone's clothes, they have the smell of the person, which reminds us of them due to olfactory memory. In the video I am wearing my mother's blouse and I used the perfume she wears to establish this relationship.
Finally, touch was represented through the various different textures that fabrics and clothes have. I used several textures (wool, denim, jeans, velvet, leather) so that the spectators could feel them just by watching.
Although at first the song "bad guy" by Billie Eilish seems to have nothing to do with the theme, for me it is a song that makes sense because with the musicality of the song I can clearly visualize a fashion show with the models walking on the catwalk in sync with the beats of the music.
