The Boy Who Grew Within The Trees

A poem of pent up emotions throughout the years of my childhood
The boy who grew within the trees
The boy was happy and care-free
In a small neighborhood surrounded by a forest
At a young age, the boy experienced something so horrid
The friends he made as he grew up completely disappeared
On the outside, the boy still acted happy and energetic
Yet within his mind, he became what he most feared

The boy grew older still finding what he wanted
As he moved from school to school he soon became haunted
He was a wandering spirit clinging to his past
But a girl was able to see him, his sad spirit was no more
The boy wondered if his eternal sadness was finally over
But as both of them got closer and closer
His parents decided to leave the little forest behind

A new country and a new start for him
The  happy and energetic boy grew to be sad and cold-hearted
Although he lived a happy life with his family
He still yearned for people he could call his friends
As the high school years past by, the boy slowly got what he wanted
Yet he kept his heart cold-hearted
Never to enjoy nor to be satisfied with what he had
He knew that life would take it away if he ever felt happy again

As his high school days came to a close
He was ready to accept the cold reality of growing up
But as he kept thinking during his sleepless nights
His cold facade started to crack away
The boy looked back throughout the years
To all the friends he made throughout his childhood
He whispered to himself with a sudden realization
“I guess I was happy all along”

Now the boy became a man who reached his new college life
Making new friends along the way
And keeping in touch with old ones
He is no longer enveloped in sadness
Instead of the happy boy who lived within the trees,
He is the happy boy living in the Garden State
His life seems much better
I wonder what's next for the boy named Hector.
