Re-imagining the Role of Experiential Spaces in the Public Realm
Experience as a design approach: A lot of architects believe that the concept of an architectural experience is an aesthetic, superficial and superfluous layer to the “actual” design. This is an outmoded thought which needs to perish. The users are at the center of any design. They need to be prioritized to get the most out of the space. Therefore, understanding experiential role in a public space will help keep the spatial design economical, accessible and consider a larger group as a target audience.
Art for the Community: While certain activities are influenced by the socio-economic background of individuals of the community, the branch of arts doesn’t require an education to interpret. The only push required is the space to make art accessible for the public. This barrier-free perspective and understanding is one of the ways to connect people and aid in interaction.
Challenging the scope of “immersive” environments: Immersive environments are often referring to virtual reality tech-aided spaces that have no connection with the real world. Even a quick google search, defines immersive in a similar way. This trend is difficult to stray away from, but it is needed to stay connected to nature and well, the real world.
