ARTIST STATEMENT
One thing I love to do in general is recreating spaces. I usually would do this in the digital space using blender but this project allowed me to accomplish this in a physical form. And with exploring spaces I have become incredibly inspired by Verner Panton’s work. He is an interior designer who designed many interiors in the 70s. I chose to recreate one among a series titled ‘Visiona’. And so I made a tunnel book recreating each layer of the sections in the original room. I look up to Panton as a designer and view his work as timeless while being highly innovative. And since I would be emulating his creation I wanted to give it the quality and luxurious feeling his spaces exude. I chose to design an all black exterior to highlight the colorful tunnel book inside. And because the exterior is all black I included multiple textures throughout (mainly matte black & black vinyl paper) to contrast between the two materials while still staying cohesive with the same color. Visiona 2 is an immersive experience, I chose to add thickness in the tunnel book layers & lights to contribute to this aspect. Overall, I wanted to create a high quality book that references a one of a kind space of the past.
