MATA NI PACHEDI

My curiosity about Indian traditional art and craft took me to the household of Mr. Bhanubhai Chitara who has won a National award for crafts in 2012. Mata ni Pachedi is a 400 years old art form which comprises of representing traditional Indian stories via paintings on fabrics. Mr. Chitara believes that this craft has helped them throughout their lives and looks forward to pass this heritage to his younger ones as part of their family tradition. This project is a document on the relationship between the craft, family, culture and the coexistence of work spaces in living spaces and their continuous efforts to keep this art form alive.

This project was done during the open elective module at NID, where we got to work with PARI(People's Archives of Rural India) and has been published on their website.
Article written for the open elective module in collaboration with PARI.
