HOPE - MAKE A WISH -

HOPE - MAKE A WISH -

This is a charity exhibition organized occasionally by “S.SELECT LAB”, a branding agency which is active in Taiwan and Japan and holds various activities that serve as a bridge between the two countries’ design cultures. Donations from the past charity event were made to the victims of the Tainan earthquake and New Taipei Water Park Explosion which was caused by colored powders in Taiwan and Kumamoto earthquake in Japan.
This exhibition, which has an underlying theme of “HOPE,” will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Twenty Japanese and Taiwanese designers are designing "folded paper cranes," which the Japanese people have used as a symbol of “HOPE” since time immemorial. Large paper cranes will be placed inside the venue. And, we would like to inform visitors that they may donate to "MUVE NPO," a Taiwanese NPO which teaches children with physical disabilities how to operate a computer using only eye movements. We present origami paper with the designs printed on for those who join us in this fundraising effort.
In the excessively unstable world situation we're living through, day after day we get a real feeling that we can never say "a world war is something we'll never have to deal with." This feeling is about more than just the impact on people's lives or the economy. On a much deeper level, the genetic level, it's about lamenting the sorrow of the people we've never met and the places we've never been. We designed the folded paper cranes while opening ourselves up to the feeling of the connection among all these mysterious people.

If you lower the wings flowers will bloom, and if you raise the wings flowers will fall. Life revolves around living and dying. Everyone in the world has blood ties somewhere. The joy and pain of someone very far away is flowing through their blood vessels. We are always together on these great, invisible wings.
