The Facebook Survival Kit

The objective of this project aims to question Singaporean's level of addiction to Facebook, which has become part of majority’s daily routine and also, to create awareness on the pros and cons of Facebook usage.

Hence, in order to support my statement that Singaporeans are prone to Facebook addiction, statistics found online has shown that Singaporeans spend the longest time on Facebook. The average time spent in August 2011 was 38 minutes and 46 seconds, ahead of the U.S at 20 minutes and 46 seconds. Furthermore, in recent years, statistics have shown that there is an increase in Singaporean Facebook users of an average of 50% male and 50% female.

Research has shown that there are many negative effects on people who are addicted to Facebook. For instance, the addicts may end up with mental illnesses, poor time management and low productivity. Facebook is also no longer just a networking medium but a medium for people to present a positive self-view to others, for self-esteem and self-control. For instance, the information, status and photos they post online are for the sake of self-presentation. Keeping up with their online identity makes them feel good and that is totally not encouraged.

Therefore in this project, the Facebook Survival Kit consists of a Guide Book, sticker, ribbon and a questionaire.
Questionaire and sticker - The questionnaire acts as an indicator to test if one is addicted through the answers the users provide. The 'Like' and 'Dislike' sticker is used instead of a pen so that users can relate to the situation more easily. Also, to make the questionaire more interactive.

Guide Book - The concept of the book is adapted from the idea of a periodic table. Users should only read the guide book only after the questionaire has been done. It consists of the statistics of Facebook users in Singapore, the Dos and Don'ts when surfing Facebook, examples to find out if one is addicted to using Facebook and ways to prevent one from falling into the addiction.

The Blue Ribbon - The ribbon is twirled into a shape of an alphabet f to represent facebook. The idea behind the campaign is to create awareness about the existence of a facebook addict so that the public can take precaution of their daily activities on facebook.
