During the spring of 2022 I had the idea to create my own star trail effect in photoshop. I had been using StarStaX comet mode quite a bit, and before that just using the actual trails captured in the images. I liked the soft feeling I had seen in Australian Lincoln Harrison's star trails but I didn't want to copy that. What I wanted was something that was blurred, tapered, and gave the feeling of movement. These are my first 4 images using it.

The image above of the Point Aux Barques Lighthouse was captured in April of 2021 but it is my favorite so I decided to go back and redo the star trails with the new effect. Below is the original image with the comet mode. I like both :)
