sestra (slovak)
[sis-ter]

(noun) "a sister is someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves -
a special kind of double."
we had the same long netted veil,
green eyes, white dotted polkas
age four and seven, hands holding
walking bare feet to feel the earth beneath,
small little steps.

soon her dress got a little longer
and her hair dazzled even more
we were eleven and fourteen
when her heartbeat
took else's name too.

we were seventeen and twenty
when my veil turned red
and hers white
I was in love
but she decided to marry.

as men turned out
to speak lies and break hearts,
together our veil turned blood
and we watched the river flowing
floating dead men's heads and hearts.

we have the same long black netted veil,
grey eyes, skinless skin
age unknown,
bones holding each other
slowly fading into thin air.

there is a charm in half done paintings.
painted during the pandemic.
every time depression took over, I picked up my brushes and tried coloring my grey life.
19th July, 2020.
it was one of those days when knowing which day of the week it was didn't matter anymore.
 23rd of July 2020.
