Abortion has become a political and ethical issue with the debate on pro choice or pro life. Most countries either dont allow abortions at all or only in specific cases. Women should have the opportunity to request an abortion. Due to abortion being illegal, it has resulted in various unsafe illegal abortions. The coat hanger is a symbol of the desperation and horror of a time when, lacking all other options, women took matters into their own hands and used it as a surgical tool which caused injuries. Abortion is health care and bodily autonomy is a human right.
The Series is based on the whole notion of reproductive and bodily autonomy. Real life images from protests have been merged with digital drawings emphasising on personal choice.
